Baguio and Its Environmental State--What Went Wrong?

Last semester, it was our project to present an investigative report regarding the crowding of Baguio and issues about its tourism industry and environment. It came to our knowledge (with my partner) that Baguio was supposedly only for 25,000 inhabitants. This is quite ironic because Baguio before was not Baguio at present.

For most of us, Baguio is recognized for its cool climate, fresh flowers and vegetables, nice tourist attractions and all. At present, Baguio is now crowded with houses for which pine trees were once stood. Actually, after the earthquake that hit Baguio before, a plan was made commissioned by international agencies--it was the called the BLIST Project. Its aim was to decongest the present Baguio. It is alarming that the local government seems to be relaxed with the issue. Instead of doing thorough job of decongesting the city, short term plans are made. On our interview with Councilor Rondez, she admitted that the City is considered a "concrete jungle" and something must be done.

The city is now suffering the bad effects of pollution and backclash of urbanization. In this regard, taking care of the environment is very much important because urbanization and advancement is nothing without proper caring of the Mother Nature. Some might take it funny but look what happened with Leyte landslide and Quezon flashfloods. Whilst people continue to devour the advancement, Baguio suffers all the negative consequences which people will soon suffer too.
